Here is a wonderful review of how organisations in Blackburn with Darwen celebrated their brilliant volunteers during Volunteers’ Week earlier this month. Many thanks to Miffy for collating these.
VOICE
VOICE presented their volunteers with a box of chocolates and a certificate to thank them for donating their time every Saturday to the Breakfast Club.
The VOICE Breakfast club runs every Saturday Morning from Platform 5 at the side of the Boulevard Centre from 10-11.30am. They provide a free hot breakfast to those who need help and support. There are also shower facilities available to use at the venue.
Just Run for Today
Just Run for Today thanked their volunteers in National Volunteers’ Week for the time they donate weekly to ensure that the running group can do regular runs.
The group applied to the Community Asset Fund in February to fund their running group and put their volunteers on group leader training so that they are able to take the runs. Since the project began they have continued to do a few weekly runs, and last week they did their 100th run.
The number of people attending the runs is growing and they are grateful for all the hard work that the volunteers put in to the group.
The running group was set up for those who are in recovery to attend, and they also hold a family friendly walk once a month.
The Phoenix Hub
The Phoenix Hub celebrated Volunteers’ Week and presented their volunteers with certificates.
The Hub recently applied to the Community Asset Fund for a second time and were awarded another £2000 to help them continue the great work they do at the Hub.
They have recently celebrated their 1 year anniversary and have now gone from opening 3 times a week to 5 days a week. The hub provides free warm breakfasts to its attendees and people can do their laundry there and access the shower facilities.
The Phoenix Hub is a one stop shop and has different services operating out of it such as Spark drug and alcohol support, Brook sexual health, changing futures supporting those with multiple disadvantages and many more.
Community CVS
Community CVS thanked our volunteers for the time they give to help out on reception at the Boulevard Centre. Like other groups, we really do value are volunteers. Below is a picture of Benedict who volunteers 5 days a week on reception, and Barbra who volunteers helping out with admin roles.

Community CVS is the first in the country to be awarded the Lead Volunteer Organisation Quality Mark in recognition of the quality of our support!!
Community CVS also runs free Volunteer training for volunteers or anyone interested in volunteering. The training takes place over the course of 4 days and covers the following:
- Day 1- Introduction into Volunteering
- Day 2- Volunteering in Practice
- Day 3- Professional practice in Volunteering
- Day 4- Volunteering in Recovery Services
We also deliver a 3 day Volunteer Managers/Quality Mark Workshops for those who manage volunteers.
