On Wednesday, colleagues from Community CVS attended the Roots Forum at St. Luke’s Church in Blackburn. The Forum happens on the last Wednesday of the month at different locations across Blackburn and Darwen.

This month’s Forum was a celebration of the Community Asset Fund and many previous applicants were there to promote their groups. So far the Community Asset Fund has funded 28 projects which benefit the recovery community within BwD.

Above are Darwen Community Drum Circle, Lancashire Community Helpers, VOICE and Shad Chefs Woman Hub who have all previously been successful in their applications to the Community Asset Fund and continue to run their projects.

Above we have Sandra and Lewis from the Phoenix Hub and also the Mayor of BwD. In the background you can see Sid from Offload Northwest waiting to speak to the Mayor.

Above we have Phil and Karen from Secret Santa who were there letting everyone know about the amazing work they do. They have also completed their Naloxone Training and will now have Naloxone available in the shop. Naloxone saves lives and is used to reverse the affects of opioids on the brain in the case of an overdose. Also, here are Dawn and Rachel at the Roots stall promoting the Guerilla Gardening Project and showcasing some home-made mint sauce and dried herbs which have been grown on their project.

Above Rickie and Connie from the Arise Project and Parisa from Just Run for Today enjoying a photo opportunity to promote their fantastic well attended projects.

Rolonde doing a presentation and demo on his Sons of Anxiety strength training club. Sons of Anxiety provide strong man/woman training and above is Leah who is a member of the club.

Here is Leanne from the Billy Project pitching her application to the Community Asset Fund. Any applicants to the Community Asset Fund are invited to present the project they have planned at the meeting (there is no set deadline for applications – you can apply at any time).

Our very own Steve Foden and the Mayor of BwD speaking to the audience about the success of Roots Community and the Community Asset Fund. This truly is exceptional work and we as a organisation are deeply proud to be a part of it. It’s a joy and honour to be working with such fantastic people and organisations.
