Noorjahan expressed an interest in volunteering early this year, having been made redundant by DWP after 20 years of service. Her children are all married and she was looking for something to enable her to stay active and keep busy.
She applied for volunteering through the Volunteer Plus website, before attending a face to face appointment with one of our advisers.
Noor possesses a wide range of skills and expressed an interest in working within the Community CVS team in an administrative role, which includes being a vital first point of contact on our Boulevard Centre reception.
Noorjahan said volunteering has helped her escape boredom as she was stuck in the house and felt lonely and isolated.
Through volunteering she has met new people & made friends.
She has learnt new skills.
Noor has also taken advantage of our Community Volunteer Training, which covers all aspects of volunteering, including a module on Volunteering in Recovery Services, and has also benefitted from PHX Training‘s Business Administration course. These opportunities have enhanced Noor’s confidence in her own capabilities and stand her in good stead when it comes to returning to paid employment.
Noor continues to volunteer with CVS on two mornings a week. Her role entails inputting data, answering & transferring calls, photocopying, meeting & greeting, taking messages.
The work of our volunteers in the Boulevard Centre is absolutely vital to our work as an organisation – and we are deeply grateful to Noor for her contribution.
